About Pointon & Poynton of England & Australia
My aim in creating this POINTON & POYNTON web site is to create a useful resource for anyone in Australia or England (or perhaps elsewhere) who has a POINTON or POYNTON among their ancestors. It also includes some of the families that have been connected to them by marriage. I would love to make it as complete and accurate as possible so please contact me if you can add anything at all.
I anticipate making frequent updates so please come back often. Maybe, eventually, we can link up some of the families that are at present unconnected.
In creating this site I am indebted to very many Pointon and Poynton descendants who have been willing to share their information with me and I publically acknowledge their assistance here. I have sometimes made connections that have not been 100% verified but which look likely. Please take this into account when using this information to create your own tree. If you do have evidence which can confirm or deny any of the connections I have made, particlarly for those in the early 1800s or before, please let me know.
At this stage, I am only entering the "bare bones" of the tree but I do anticipate adding more biographical information as well as photographs in the future. If you have anything that you are willing to contribute I would love to hear from you.
Please note that where dates are only years they may be estimations made from other sources such as baptisms, age at death or marriage or from censuses. If you can provide more accurate dates or places, please also contact me. For the most part, living people have not been included in this tree. In the small number of cases where they have, information has been limited to no more than name and birth year. If you have any concerns please let me know. My connection is to the Pointons of Codicote, Hertfordshire, so my main interest lies in that area. At least four and possibly five Pointons from this area were transported to Van Diemens Land (later Tasmania, Australia). Consequently, anyone with a Pointon or Poynton from Hertfordshire or Tasmania is likely to be a relative and I would love to hear from you. I am nevertheless also interested in the other Pointon or Poynton families that came to Australia, and also those that remained in England, so please also contact me if you are related to any of these.
If you have any queries or concerns about any of the information included here, please let me know.
In many cases I have a lot more information than I have been able to enter here at this stage. If you are interested in any of this or in the sources of my information, or if you would like a gedcom to make importation of the details easier, please also do not hesitate to contact me.
 Kind regards,
 Sharon Long
